Fried Feta Cheese Balls

Cheesy, crunchy and addictive!!! That's what you will get with these fried Feta cheese balls! An irresistible combination of a crunchy outer crumb and a cheesy center make them a crowd favorite!

How to make Fried Feta Cheese Balls

First prepare flour with a pinch of black pepper in a medium mixing bowl or a pan, then another bowl with a beaten egg and some water and a separate bowl or pan with bread crumbs.

In a medium sized bowl add crumbled Feta Cheese, grated Gouda and Mozzarella Cheese (you can also use other grated cheese like Greek Graviera or Kefalotyri. Cheddar is a good option too) some black pepper and 40 gr all purpose flour. Mix all the ingredients until combined and roll into 20 small, round balls (about a tablespoon each).

Drop each ball into the flour and toss to thoroughly coat.

Then transfer each cheese ball to the bowl with the egg mixture and make sure they are covered on all sides.

Transfer cheeseballs into the bread crumbs and toss to evenly coat on all sides with bread crumbs.

Place cheeseballs on a prepared baking sheet. Freeze them for 20 minutes or until firm. You can also fry them right away. The chilling process helps the cheeseballs to cook more evenly after they have chilled for a while.

Heat a generous amount of sunflower oil on a medium sized sauce pan. Then carefully lower Feta cheese balls (maximum 10 at a time) into the oil and deep fry for 1-2 minutes or until golden. To do this use a skimmer or a spoon.

When they are light golden brown on all sides, carefully lift them out and transfer to a cooling rack. (Avoid paper towel, because it will stick on them. I am sure you don't want to eat paper towel.)

Topping ideas

Place fried Feta cheese balls on a serving bowl or tray. Drizzle with ketchup or with a tomato-basil sauce, a red hot sauce etc.
